Ian's documentary wedding photography approach explained.

Leicester Wedding Photographer Ian Bursill's low-key documentary style of photography delivers images from an observers point of view and the majority of his images are captured without his subjects even being aware of him.

By creatively documenting what unfolds before him, he captures the true essence of the wedding - the laughter, the tears, the joy and all of the emotions of the day.

Ian strongly believes that the day belongs to the Bride & Groom and their guests and not to the photographer or the videographer, so to remain as unobtrusive as possible he chooses to work completely alone.

He will not take any posed shots other than 20 minutes worth of group formals and 10-15 minutes of informal and very lightly directed portraits with the bride and groom.

Approximately 50-60% of the shots Ian takes are converted to black & white. By removing colour, the viewer can concentrate on light and composition, without having to contend with colours & tones that clash and distract the eye.
